Jefferson Pilgrimage

The Magnolias

The Magnolias was built in 1867 by Daniel N. Alley the co-founder of Jefferson, as a dowry for his daughter Victoria Kate Alley. The home has had a number of owners through the years who were prominently involved in the civic and business affairs of the town.  An example of the Late Greek Revival style, the fluted columns on the broad front porch are hand-hewn from local cypress trees. The floors in the house are wide heart pine. The Magnolias is a recorded Texas Historic Landmark, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is  recorded in the Historic American Buildings Survey in the Library of Congress. The current owner is Mrs. Cathy Moore.  The Magnolias, 209 E. Broadway, Jefferson, Texas.
